After travelling and living in most of eastern United States, we now call Sun City Center our home. Del Webb, of Sun City Arizonia fame was the developer here in the 1960's when this area was know as THE SALAD BOWL because of the many farms. It is located in a swath of land from Tampa Bay to Cape Canaveral that has never recorded a hurricane. It is now home for over 16,000(over 55 years of age). It has so many different clubs and activities that if you visited one per day it would take you almost a year to take in all. It is a city that prides itself of being a self contained community managed by volunteers. |
| | A Way Of Life Every place in town can be reached by golf cart which not many, if any, other towns can claim. Golf carts are a way of life here. With about 4,000 golf carts owned by the residences, they become a second car for most. Some people only own a golf cart, having given up their autos. You can use one to go to the golf courses, Shopping Centers, Hospital and to your Doctors. They come in all sizes, shapes and colors. Security, handymen, and almost everyone uses one to get around. In 2002 they had a Christmas Golf Cart Parade that totalled 191 decorated carts and they applied to the Guinness World Records to see if that was a record. It was and the certificate (newspaper copy) is pictured. |
Activities To name a few activities here in Sun City Center lets begin with the Computer Club. Probably one of the largest membership club in the states. There is also the lawn bowling, exercise and swimming, photography, bunka, jewerly making, model railroading, stained glass, and pickleball clubs to name a few. Get a few members together and you can set up a club of your choice and reserve rooms for its meeting. | | |

ForestqueenNYC Tue Aug 9, 2005 23:31 UTC On you "false sense of speed" tip: "So when near one always keep an eye on him and be ready to move FAST". You must kidding. I don't plan on being near one, but if so, I am not keeping an eye on him. I getting the heck out of there. | Karolina01 Fri Feb 4, 2005 12:41 UTC Happy happy birthday to you!!! | deecat Fri Feb 4, 2005 12:00 UTC 16,000 people in one planned community?? Your travelogues are wonderful. The carts are super. What a grand way to enjoy retirement. Your photogrpahs & text are interesting and informative. | starship Mon Dec 6, 2004 13:12 UTC It must be great living on the water like you do -- even with the alligators! I have the same question as "Bonio" though--what is pickleball?? |
