The Hungarian "Sea"

This is the biggest lake in Hungary and in Central Europe. The with of the lake is 5-6kms, the length is 78kms. The average depth of water is 3 ms, the deepest is 12 ms at Peninsula of Tihany.
The temperature of water is around 20-26 C from May to Sept.
The southern shore is very shallow and sandy. The northern shore is famous for beautiful hills (many of them are volcanic origin) and its excellent wines.
The lake is the main area of sailing in Hungary and boat trips are also popular.
The most favourite places of the lake are :
Badacsony, (almost the whole Balaton region can be seen from the higher terraces of the hill)
Tihany, (one of the oldest settlements in the region, the church and the monastry was founded in 1055 by King Andrew I., who is buried here)
Balatonfured, ( in May the start of sailing season is celebrated here and the famous Anna ball in July)
Siofok, (a real tourist centre with long beaches, hotels, restaurants and an open-air theatre with folklor programs or pop concerts during the summer)
Keszthely ( with a Baroque style castle built in 1754)

Very nice start :))))) I was on Balaton as a child, but I remember very few things.... Mostly how I fell in the camp... I still have a nasty scar as a memento:)))) lol I would love to come back now as adult and to see how much it has changed
