"In loving memory of my Grandma ..." a Lahti Travel Page by heli

My grandma used to live in Lahti. I loved her dearly and now that she's gone I really haven't been to Lahti very much... Occasionally I do pay a visit or two, though, since who can resist the charm of this Winter Sports Capital of Finland?

Good food, friendlier people than in Helsinki, and the endless charm of winter ... I guess Lahti is nice as a summer town too, but for me it'll always be winter when I most long to see her again. I love the way nature is close to this city, the way you can walk around on the Radio Hill (the one with the two masts) where there is a museum, a cemetery, an ice rink and a sense of peace nevertheless, right in the middle of the city. You get a beautiful view over the Orthodox church to the lake, with the three larger ski jumping hills to the right. A scene I will always carry with me wherever I go - for some reason I love it...
