In 1892 a group of settlers arrived at the western border of Cheyenne and Arapaho Indian county of the Oklahoma Territory to stake their claims on the third Oklahoma land run. As they dashed for their wagons and buggies on April 19th, some ran as fast as they could to whatever area looked best, and that is how Weatherford was born. An area that was unpredictable in weather and the new Oklahomans had to learn new methods of dry land farming and learn to live with tornadoes and thunderstorms.
