Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: Summer in Tbilisi is extremely hot (30-40 degrees), so you'll need cool clothes...but there are some rules concerning dress for men...i.e. no shorts. Summer in the mountains can get quite cold...I remember sitting in my bedroom in Kazbegi wishing I had brought some warmer clothes - after the sun has disappeared behing the mountains, it becomes cold very quickly, especially if there is no power for any heating. According to my friends in Tbilisi, winter there is very cold....and power shortages mean it is difficult to get warm. So don't forget your winter clothes!!
Photo Equipment: Bring as much film as you can...you can get film in Tbilisi (after a bit of fuss, in some shops!), and a few other places, but i don't know how reliable it is. There is lots to photograph here, as the scenery is spectacular....I took far more photos than I was expecting!
Camping/Beach/Outdoor Gear: In winter you can ski at Gudauri and possibly also at Bakuriani, near Borjomi...might be an idea to bring your own skiing gear, as I don't know if it is possible to rent it in Georgia.
Miscellaneous: A torch would be very useful if you found yourself outside your hotel after dark during a power cut...back up generators are rare, so that means there is absolutely no light whatsoever! Not fun when you consider the size of the potholes, and also the fact that many manholes are uncovered!!
