I studied in Durham, which is a fairly small city in North East England. Because it was so small, most Durham students visit the big metropolis of Newcastle quite regularly for shopping, nightlife or the beach. I must admit, the first time I went to Newcastle, I did not have very high expectations....but it is a nice city, and a good one to live in, judging by one of my friends who has recently moved there. The Quayside development has come to life since my first visit...expensive bars line the waterfront, ending with the new Millennium Bridge which crosses the Tyne to Gateshead and the brand new Baltic Mill, a free modern art gallery. Within the city limits is the Tyneside coast and the resorts of Whitley Bay, Tynemouth and South Shields, all easily reached by the metro system. See my travelogue for pictures and comments.
This page used to have plenty tips, but now most of them have moved to my new page about Durham...it explains why this introduction is not as good as it could be (I'm writing it in a hurry as I only have tonight to set all my pages right!). I have lots more to add about Newcastle, and plenty of pictures too, but all of it will have to wait for now ;@P Bear with me...!
Finally got a photo, albeit not a very good one....I have others, but for now they are stuck on my memory cards... |

Some of your Newcastle commentary is eerily reminiscent of my home town. | Imbi Wed Nov 26, 2003 22:46 UTC Newcastle is one of the best places to visit in England. Incredible page. | Jigmonkeyuk Fri Aug 30, 2002 23:59 UTC On a weekend at the Quayside: trainers will get you in nowhere! Blue jeans to clubs are a no no. Men should always wear tops with collars. |
