"Jebel Awliya" Jabal al Awliya' by maykal

Jabal al Awliya' Travel Guide: 11 reviews and 18 photos

Follow the White Nile south of Khartoum and after a few miles, you'll come to a "mountain" (rocky outcrop would be more exact, but this is flat Khartoum!) and a whopping great dam. The mountain is Jebel Awliya, and the dam is a favourite recreation area for the city folk downstream. There isn't much there, even less during Ramadan, but it is a great place to escape the chaos of the city for a few hours.

Oh Dear, we've done the picnic thing in the past, 1970s to be exact. And visited one of 'military camps' where my son did his military service prior to University. A wedding or two just about completes my trips there.
