Métro: The Paris METRO

Getting TO/AROUND: The METRO is a fantastic way to get around Paris. The "Mobilis" card is what we bought daily to use. It is an all day card that will allow you to use the Metro to go within 2 zones if I am not mistaken and costs 4.85 Euro. The Metro is a frequent thing, but can be very crowded, so sometimes waiting for the next train can be a good idea. There are also very COLORFUL characters that are on the train.....everything from Karaoke to some seedy people. I just can't say this enough.....BE ON YOUR guard! The friends we were with were a little uncomfortable because we had a gentleman hop on the train and he spoke to the whole car and said who knows WHAT! (we still don't have a clue what he said, but the Parisians looked at him like he had 2 heads!) Our gentleman friend was so uncomfortable that he really didn't want to ride the Metro again, but by the second day, we were old pros. Just don't let your guard down!

Getting TO/AROUND: The train is a FANTASTIC way to get to Paris! The SNCF probably has the best deals when it comes to rail travel than anyone! We got rail fare from Strasbourg, France for 5 for 150 Euros. We had to buy a child card for my friend's son and it was an additional 63 Euros to get that fare, but that was well worth the money and the card is good for a year! Our friends live in Germany, so they can still use it since they are living in Europe and will be for some time. It was a 4 hour scenic trip across France, but quite picturesque and fun! By the way, we drove to Strasbourg as the German Rail tickets are an awful price when you try to go between countries. Buying gas for the car we were driving to go across the two countries would have been worse....it was 71 Euro to fill a Jeep Cherokee, so driving really is not an option. It was a lot cheaper for us to stay in Strasbourg, plus we had the added tour of visiting it as well!:) More on Strasbourg later:)

    Seine: Cruising Rive Seine

  • Paris Seine
  • You know you want to go!

Getting TO/AROUND: Bateaux Parisians has a Bato Bus that will cruise you around to specific places on La Seine that you can get off and then get back on after visiting your place of interest. It cost 10 Euro to ride the whole day, but unfortunately it is not listed on their site. It is a good way to get around though and we probably would have used it more had we knew that they had something like this. We did not know about it until our departure day as our plan that day was to take a Seine cruise. It truly is a wonderful way to enjoy Paris and gives you a chance to relax between attractions!
