Mekong Delta: Mekong Delta tour
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]
  • We went on the 3 day, 2 nights Mekong Delta region tour with the Sinh cafe. It was well worth it and excellent value for money. Any more info about this tour is under my Can Tho page as I couldn't find anywhere better to put it:

Jo's Mekong Delta tour review & tips

If you are returning to Saigon after a tour (ie not exiting via Cambodia) you can leave any luggage you don't need at the Sinh Cafe which was handy.

There's a lot of tour companies running mekong trips. The sinh cafe was very good but I'm sure the competition is of a high standard too so it's worth shopping around.

    Things To Do: Cyclo touring
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]
  • They will be after you wherever you go! It can be quite overwhelming and exhausting especially whne you've just arrived. It is worth taking a cyclo tour for a unique view of the city and for the adrenaline rush! Be very clear though exactly how long you want a tour for and where to go.

Bleary eyed and killing time for our room to be ready in the hotel, we were stuck on cyclos for 2 hours in the hot sun, just off the plane and too exhausted to argue! A good initiation to Saigon but a slightly unwelcome one!

Things To Do: Hang around De Tham Street
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]
  • The backpacker area grew on me the longer we stayed there. It's the old quarter of Saigon so feels less built up and developed than the rest of the city. it's a good place for cheap eats, drinking, souvenir shopping and being hassled by street sellers!

    War Remnants Museum: War Museum
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]
  • The war remnants museum is a place that you should give some time to when in saigon. I have to admit that our visit didn't do it justice - we were in the midst of a very hot, jet-lagged cyclo tour and didn't spend long there and weren't really in the right frame of mind. Go there once you've had a few days to absorb Saigon then you can give it a closer look.

    Reunification Palace: Reunification Palace
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]
  • The palace was well worth a look. there's english speaking guides to give you a tour of the impressive rooms and fascinating basement offices. The views are good, stand on the rooftop and imagine the tanks crashing through the gates. There's a video at the end which gives you more info about the war and history of Vietnam - am ashamed to admit that the darkened room and jet lag caused me to lapse into a rather peaceful sleep at this point!!

Temples: Absorb the heat in the temples
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]
  • There's plenty of temples in Saigon that you can visit. We didn't focus on them much due to time and energy constraints though. This snap was taken at a place that I don't know the name of, again another brief stop during our mad cyclo expedition!

I liked De Tham too. I remember the Saigon Bar. It's funny how the first thing we all notice about Saigon is the motrobikes.
