The longer I stayed in Saigon, the more I grew to like it. I found it to be a very friendly place: people want your money as they do in any other city, but I found the people to be refreshingly upfront about it and I didn't feel unduly ripped off. The bike traffic is crazy but there's no option but to face it head-on.
We had only planned to stay two nights in Saigon before heading off on a tour and then on to Phu Quoc. We ended up coming back in between other places as grew quite attached to the city and the people. it was also the only place we went to during our stay where you can have a good night out! I still feel that we didn't experience Saigon fully and could have easily spent a few more days there.
From Saigon, we did a 3 day Mekong Delta tour from which I've put all the info under the following Can Tho page: Jo's Mekong Delta with the Sinh Cafe
Stick with Saigon following the initial bustle and hassle when you arrive and you will have a great time. Take an adreanline fuelled cyclo ride, dice with death on the back of motorbikes, hold onto your bags while you chat with the kids and lose several hours in a dark seedy bar and Saigon life will soon feel like you've been there for weeks!

iwys Sat May 7, 2005 06:54 UTC I liked De Tham too. I remember the Saigon Bar. It's funny how the first thing we all notice about Saigon is the motrobikes. | globe_trekker Sun Apr 24, 2005 22:44 UTC Jo, i know what you felt when i had to knock on the door after comng back from a late night out. |
