Nightlife Spot: Blah Blah Bar
Convenient if you are studying at BLCU...otherwise...there are better places to go... Live music with interesting mixed bands. Cheap beer and alcohol... A great place to meet up with fellow students... The photo is by Jack Presswood. (Who should give me a shout someday!!!)

Havana's: This is Simon in his favorite place in the club... When the weather is good, they open the club up in the back where there is an open air section with a stage at the very back. They have hammocks and beds to lie on and gaze at the stars (smog). The music is fantastic if you like Latin dancing. The atmosphere is great!

Nightlife Spot: The Den Bar & Restaurant
If you want to get away from the standard raving (techno, etc.) music that permeates the majority of western night clubs in Beijing, the Den is a good place for top 40 and hip hop. The decor could definitely use some help...it is modelled after the whole Shanghai triad look...red lanterns and all... Get there early if you want a booth for a base. The layout isn't great...most of the seats are on the bottom floor while the dance floor is on the top... The floor is always crowded and very dark. It's still one of the pitstops on your way around the San Li Tun circuit though... (Also serves a decent breakfast if you are up 'til dawn...)

Nightlife Spot: The Big Easy
Unforgettable nights meeting lots of fantastic people and dancing until the wee hours of the morning. The best times were when Larry taught swing in the back room. Magical moments in time when I felt like I was dancing on air... The great thing about the Big Easy is the relaxed atmosphere. Fantastic live music every night! Great Jazz! The food is also really good...though on the pricier side...good if you're an expat...impossible if you're a student. They also have some really fun theme nights and promotions. The picture is from Mardi Gras 2000 (with all the dressings...beads, masks, prizes, etc.) A great place!!!

al_jensen Fri Jul 4, 2008 12:37 UTC If you get the chance, you might want to try studying Chinese online, for instance there are several good websites with Mandarin tutorials such as www.zhongwenred.com | GillianMcLaughlin Wed Aug 4, 2004 12:36 UTC Hi.
