Djerba is a fairly big island, just off Tunisia’s southern coast. It is a large tourist resort and the local architecture is made up of square whitewashed houses all over the island.
Long sandy beaches fringed with palms added to a slow pace of life make it a popular getaway. There are many villages on the island, but almost no towns. The only real town is Houmt Souq, and travellers arriving at Djerba to the norht by ferry will pass through the village of Ajim.
Midoun – Jerba’s second biggest town – springs to life on Fridays when its sprawling market attracts a large crowd of local people and tourists. It is worth arriving early as everything is over by lunchtime.
Guellala is a picturesque little village with a large community of potters.
The island attracts both foreign and Tunisian tourists. It is accessed in the south from a 6 km causeway from the mainland near Zarzis. There is an international airport (Melilla) in the northwest of the island .
Although it is only 30km wide by 27km long, Jerba is said to have 354 mosques – one for every day of the Islamic calendar.
Djerba has a wide selection of hotels mostly situated in the touristic zone at the north-east coast.

Nice Djerba page. I really enjoyed my time there as well. I would re-look some of the prices on your tips though - they were low when you were there because it was just after the terrorist attacks, but the prices have gone up a bit since.
One of my friends goes here at least once a year to unwind, saying there's nothing else to do! You just proved her wrong (I will tell her!). I'd love to visit the markets and the synagoge looks pretty stunning as well! Thanks for sharing.
Hello Gini! An interesting page on Ile de Jerba. good tips and beautiful photos. The synagogue looks amazing. Happy birthday from Finland!
Great page with beautiful photos! I like those pics of the market very much!

The Synagogue is amazing. Is the interior done in mozaics? Beautiful colors. Great pages.
Two more weeks before I'll be in Jerba myself. After seeing these nice pages I've got no doubt that it's about to be a wonderfull stay. Thanks !!
