We left the awesome Hoysala temples of Halebid, Belur and Somnathpur behind and finally arrived in Mysore.
Mysore city was the capital of the old royal Mysore province. The word Mysore expands to "Mahishasurana Ooru" which means the town of the demon Mahishasura.
The story goes that the demon Mahishasura was killed by goddess Chamundeshwari or Durga atop the Chamundi hill near Mysore, hence the name.
Mysore still retains much of its carefully built character of a Maharaja's capital by means of the Amba Vilas Palace.
Beyond Mysore's architectural heritage, the city's long-held tradition of music and dance, art and literature, scholarship and time-honoured crafts were nurtured under the Woodeyar's patronage.
Time to leave the Karnataka State and cross the Tamil Nadu State border to discover Ooty (Udagamandalam), the Hill Station in the Nilgiri mountains.

Great information and photos of Mysore, thanks for sharing!
yup, offering. one is expected to leave offerings within the temple. one can buy outside the tempte to be brought in, or just leave money. a priest will probably adorn your forehead with a colorful dot for a few rupees.
Nice **** hotel - I wonder what the stars stand for.
Thanks for sharing. Good information. The lighting is so nice. 2 hours to get back your suitcase? Gees.
Fascinating page, Indai is high on my list for dream destinations.
Great tips...and wonderful photo's of Mysore!
what an interesting location and great pics ! It really looks like a fairy tale !
Beautiful job with the photographs, Gini :)
I like a yellow cow (must be cow-woman :-). Haha, not so bad with your lost for 2 hours uggage, not mention interesting hotel tour :-); my luggage was lost for 2 days (by KLM in Amsterdam) = less interesting clothes shopping, paid by KLM :-).
