Agadir

When we came to Agadir we were so disappointed. The beaches are nice, but the town itself, its just a whole bunch of hotels built in the 60's (=ugly!) after an earthquake. The food looked nice, but didn't taste anything!

So..

..We rented a car and went 170 km north up the coast to Essaoira, which is a lovely small town!
It's an old fishing village, and at least in April when we were there, we didn't see any tourists at all. The town is very cozy and romantic with lots of nice cafes and restaurants.
We stayed at a small privately owned b&b on the south side of the town (can't remember the name, sorry!) and the owner made us the best breakfast. Their national drink, Mentha tea is so good, so is the fresh orange juice.
Don't miss the markets in the heart of the town, it's fantastic to just walk around and look.

In Agadir I found the men a bit annoying, staring at me and wanting to touch me. In Essaoira we didn't notice anything like that, although we were the only "white people" there they just smiled at us and were very friendly.

The trip Agadir - Essaoira was very nice, there are a few very small villages on the way, but bring something to eat as it takes quite a while as the roads are narrow. You'll get a great view from many spots and you'll find a lot of empty, long beaches on the way.

True statement! Agadir is truly a touristy place. Essaouira and Marrakesh offer you more insight into the real Morocco!
