Just 1 hour drive north from Sydney is Newcastle and a short drive further north is Stockton sanddunes, the largest sanddunes (2500 kmv sand!) in the southern hemisphere.
You can go 4WDriving here if you have a pemssion, or just join one of the tours - it's so much fun! :)

More Port Stephens than Newcastle and, just as an update, TomteLand is now an aboriginal theme park. Nice viewing anyway.
