great scenery in Grand teton N.P. - Jackson

great scenery in Grand teton N.P.

Visit Grand Teton National Park

I think it is clear if you are in Jackson, that you visit the Grand Teton National Park.

I even think that is the reason why people come to Jackson (in the summer); in the winter it might be to some snow recreation.

The entrance to the Grand Teton National Park is only 4 miles from Jackson.

Grand Teton N.P. is a great park, less known as the big and famous Yellowstone, but certainly worth a visit.

There were great views over the snowy mountains, nice chapels and beautiful lakes.

This must be a great park to make some beautiful hikes; unfortunately I was on a tight schedule, so time to do some serious hiking.

Live to Ride - Jackson

Live to Ride

Live to Ride - Ride to Live

More bikes, and some of them were real pieces of art - with lots of tuning on them.

What a fantastic view, all those beautiful bikes parked in front of the Million Dollars Bar in Jackson, Wyoming.

Why are they here, probably because they are on the road towards Sturgis, South Dakota.

As the first week of August (from August 6th till August 12th 2007) there is the famous Bike week.

So here in Jackson it was only the beginning, I did see lots of bikes during the first 3 weeks of my journey.

I just love the sound of a Harley Davidson. (And there were plenty on the road in that period)

Jackson Hole museum - Jackson

Jackson Hole museum

Jackson Hole museum

In a side street of the Highway 89 (road towards Grand Teton National Park) - North Glenwood street, you find the Jackson Hole museum.

Here you can learn more on the local history of Jackson Hole.

I have read in a local guide that they also organise historical walks in Jackson from here.

I did not visit this museum - no time.

Ripleys's Believe it or not museum - Jackson

Ripleys's Believe it or not museum

Ripleys's Believe it or not museum

On the road towards the Jackson Hole & Greater Yellowstone Visitors Centre there was a Ripley's believe it or not museum.

I did not visit it, because I had no time, and I had already visited a Ripley's Believe it or not museum in Pattaya, Thailand.

In these museums you can see all kind of strange things, like animals with multiple heads, and other curiosities of nature.

Maybe this is a good idea for a rainy day.

Stuffed buffalo - Jackson

Stuffed buffalo

Buffalo on the run

Hi hi, Watch out there comes a buffalo . . . . .

No no, do not be afraid, it is not a real one, it is a stuffed animal.

This stuffed Buffalo was just outside a souvenir shop in the city centre of Jackson.

It was forbidden to touch it, to feed it or ride on it

great buildings - Jackson

great buildings

Street views

It was great to walk around in Jackson, as you really get a kind of western feeling, with all the houses built like they come out of a cowboy movie.

Of course as Jackson is super touristy all these buildings are or souvenir shops or bar/restaurants. But that makes it also nice to walk around and to look into the different shops.

statue - Jackson

Statue in the middle of town square

In the middle of Town Square there is a statue, it shows a cowboy riding bareback on a wild horse, like in the rodeo.

So at first I thought this was a statue for some local Rodeo hero.

But in fact it is also a kind of war memorial statue to honour the veterans of this region.

And there also were remembrance plates for the soldiers who died in both World Wars and Vietnam, and one for the Desert Shield - Desert Storm soldiers.

Town Square George Washington Memorial Park (Town Square) Review

After visiting the Jackson Hole & Greater Yellowstone Visitors centre, I walked back to city centre.

The entrance gates of the town square looked very special.

In fact they were made of deer antlers. (See detail in second picture)

This town square was also an ideal place to rest, and lay down in the grass to read / sleep a bit.

And this town square seems also be the place for the daily shoot-out (6.30 pm nightly Memorial to Labour Day)

Elk - Jackson

Elk

Visitors centre - inside

When you arrive at a place for the first time, it is always interesting to visit the visitors centre.

You can collect extra information, on the must sees in the region; mostly there is a bookshop,
You can also buy postcards.

Here in this visitors centre there was an interesting exhibit on the local wildlife. Like this you learn more on these animals.

And of course there is always a decent restroom.
