In July I went to Heppen, a small village near Leopoldsburg (Limburg). The Local cycling Club, V.W. Heppen organised their annual Abbey trip.

I had heard from friends that this was a very beautiful trip.

The distance from Roeselare to Heppen was about 180 km; of course I did that by car.

In Heppen there were several cycling distances from 35 till 160 km.

The 90 km trip: abbey of Postel
The 110 km trip: abbeys of Tongerlo and Averbode
The 160 km trip: abbeys of Postel - Tongerlo and Averbode.

As the weather was not so good, it was raining, I decided to go for the 110 km trip.

It was a nice trip along quiet roads, but it was not so easy (read flat) as I thought.

So after 40 km we arrived at the Abbey of Tongerlo (See my Tongerlo page).

And after 52 km we passed the Abbey of Averbode.

Of course I had my digital camera with me.

110 kilometer fietsen, allemachtig! Met de auto is de abdijenroute gelukkig ook prima te doen.

Very nice start .... I did a part of the GR5 route trough Averbode (from Bergen op Zoom to Nice). Beautiful nature !
