Favorite Thing: In November 2004, there were a number of theatre events in and around the Castle of Rumbeke.
This event was named: Van den Grooten Oorloge (from the Great War). This event was organised by the Verenigde Vrienden which were celebrating their 150th jubilee.
It was a wonderful event; it was even kind of educational, and funny, as we had to eat - Hutsepoetse mit wurst - (hotchpotch with a sausage) and that in the typical military mess-tin. The complete tour was 3 hours.
During the World War I, the Castle of Rumbeke was used as a residential housing for highly ranked German military.
From October 1914 till September 1916, it was the headquarter of the 26th Reserve Corps of the 4th German Army.
During this period lots of important German persons visited the Castle of Rumbeke, like the Crown Prince Albrecht Von Wurttemberg (in 1915), same as the pioneer of aviation Graf von Zeppelin, and the famous red Baron,
Rittmeister Manfred von Richthofen.
Close to the Castle there was a Flugplatz or a German military airstrip
Fondest Memory: We all had a wonderful time during this theatre event.
