Restaurant Name: Imbiss
Close to the pension I stayed, there was an Imbiss stand. They were selling all kind of sausages (Bratwurst, Frankfurter, Hotdogs, . . . ) As I did not want to lose too much time by eating a big meal at noon, I decided to eat 2 Berner sausages and some fries. These Berners were filled with cheese and wrapped by slices of bacon. The taste was very good. The price for this meal was 4,20 euro. You find these stands at several places in the city.

Restaurant Name: Ruben's Brasserie
After some walking and sightseeing it was time for a stop. And the terrace of the Ruben's Brasserie just looked great for that purpose. I had a 1/2 l Stiegl beer (beer from Salzburg) - price 3.20 euro. In fact you can come here for breakfast, lunch or just for a coffee and cake or . . . for a beer. The prices for starters go from 6 to 12 Euros and for main courses from 8 to 20 Euros. To me that are reasonable prices, you even can get a two courses lunch for 6,90 Euros. Opening hours: Wednesday through Monday from 9 a.m. to midnight, closed on Tuesdays
Favorite Dish: Favourite dish : I did not eat here Favourite beer : Stiegl

Restaurant Name: Zum Luepold
At the end my first sight-seeing tour in Vienna I arrived at the end of the Schottengasse. There I noticed this cosy restaurant : Zum Leupold. The wooden interior looked very warm and cosy. First there was time for a big beer (Hopfen - 1/2 L - 3,40 euro) Then I decided to try the Wiener Schnitzel von Kalb (veal) with Pommes frites. And indeed the taste was just great. For desert I had another beer. That was a great way to end a beautiful day in Vienna. This is indeed a good restaurant with big dishes. PS: the home made Goulash also looked very tasteful (seen at the table next to me)
Favorite Dish: The deliscious Wiener Schnitzel von kalb (veal) - (12 euro) with Pommes Frites (fries) - (2,90 euro) Big beer 0,5 L (Hopfen) - (3,40 euro)

Restaurant Name: Palmenhaus
Day 2 : Hofburg area It was around noon as I arrived in the Burggarten, after I had visited the nice green garden, I thought it would be great to eat something on the big terrace in front of the greenhouse. The terrace of the restaurant Palmenhaus, looked very popular among the Vienna families, to enjoy breakfast / lunch in the green oasis in the middle of a busy city. As I noticed that a lot of people where have a late breakfast, I also ordered a plate of eggs sunny side up with bacon and Semmeln (bread), and of course a Coffee (Wiener Melange)

Landtmann: Strudl und Caffee

Restaurant Name: Landtmann
In the late afternoon, I stopped for a well deserved coffee. Place : the famous Caffee Landtman, one of the famous Vienna coffeehouses. My guidebook (Knopf Citymap Guides) describes this Caffee as a meeting place for the Austrian intelligentsia . . . This Coffeehouse has a big terrace. When you are in Vienna you do not order just a coffee! Och no, just try one of the many Viennese coffee specialities : - Kleiner Schwarzer Kurz (Short Espresso - 2.60 euro) - Kleiner Mokka (Espresso with separate milk or cream on request - 2.60 euro) - Grosser Mokka ( double espresso black or with separate milk or cream on request - 3.80 euro) - Wiener Melange (Half Espresso, Half hot frothy milk - 3.80 euro) - Franziskaner (A light coffee "Melange" topped with whipped cream - 3.80 euro) - Verlängerter ("Extended" espresso, black or with milk - 3.80 euro) - - - Mozart Kaffee (Double espresso with Mozart liquor, whipped cream and almonds - 5.70 euro) - Franz Landtman Kaffee (double espresso with brandy, coffee liquor, whipped cream and cinnamon - 5.70 euro) and the list was much longer (there was also list of Hot Chocolate specialities and tea specialities), so enough to choose . . . Of course with the coffee you need something sweet, there was a display case showing cakes and pastry all prepared by there own gourmet pastry Chef. - Cakes (3.80 euro) - Strudel (3.80 euro - Tea cake gulhupf (2.80 euro) - Portion of Whipped cream (1 euro) Of course you can also stop here to eat a Wiener schnitzel. This was Sigmund Freud favourite Coffeehouse.

Restaurant Name: Centimeter II
Day 2 : Spittelberg area After I had discovered the Spittelberg area (see my off the beaten path - chapter), I noticed this Centimetre II restaurant. Outside there was a terrace, but it was full, so I went inside. The place looked very cosy. The service was excellent; the young ladies were very friendly and helpful. The food was just great, it was nit expensive at all, and there was a lot of schnitzel on the plate. They had 8 different kinds of beer from tap, and you also could order a meter of beer. And there was also the possibility to order a plank with the 8 beers from (of course in smaller glasses).

Restaurant Name: typical Austrian specialities
Around noon, I passed at the Hoher Markt. I noticed that there was a stand which was selling the typical sausages (Bratwurst). So, the I did like may locals do, I did buy a bratwurts with bread and mustard. As I am a real meatlover, it was tasty, quick and cheap. Yes right, maybe this is not the most healthy food, but so what . . . .

The second evening I had diner in the Centimeter II in the Spittelberg area. As I returned to my hotel the fourth day of my Vienna visit, I noticed that there was another Centimeter bar / restaurant at the outher side of the street, opposite the subway station Alser strasse. So went there for dinner, and I tried the Holzhackertelle (lumberjack dish).
