I started my visit of London at St James's Park. St James's Park is the oldest Royal Park in the city. In the early days there was a hospital for leprosy patients over here. In St James's Park you can see some pelicans, these birds are a gift of a Russian ambassador.

This is the official housing of the Royal Family. In the early days it was named Buckingham House, built in 1703, for the Duke of Buckingham. Queen Victoria declared in 1837 that this castle should be the Royal residence. Since 1993, you can visit some parts of this Palace in August and September. The entries are used to pay the fire damage. When the Royal Flag is up, this means that the Queen is home. Why didn’t she invite me for the afternoon tea ? ?

In front of Buckingham palace, in the middle of the big roundabout, there is a big white statue. And on one side of thsi statue you can see Queen Victoria. And if you ask me she doesn't look very amused.

The square around the roundabout in front of Buckingham Palace is surrounded with beautiful gates. All these gates are beautifully decorated. All these gates have names of countries who are or were reigned by the Britisch Monarchy.

The gates are decorated very beautifully, as you can see on this picture, which is a detail of the gate which leads to Green Park.

It is pretty normal that security is a very important subject around a Royal Palace. That is why, you frequently see policeman patrolling on horses. And note that even the horses are wearing security spectacles.
