"La Mitad del Mundo" San Antonio by filipdebont

San Antonio Travel Guide: 23 reviews and 91 photos

One of the most visited tourist sites is La Mitad del Mundo. Translated : The middle of the world.

That is also the reason how Ecuador got its name, as it lays on the Equator.

There is a monument is placed on the Equator. This Mitad del Mundo is located in San Antonio, a small village 23 km North of Quito.

I had heard of San Antonio but before reading your page, knew little about it. Thank you for the interesting tips and pics. I related to the comment about wanting to see a place but not being able to get there. They must not place much emphasis on tourism

Enjoyable reading for San Antonio. You certainly are well traveled. Your style is interesting and easy to follow. I like the personal touches. Great photographs too.

So Mitad del Mundo isn't really Mitad del Mundo ? Great experience anyway.

Haha, I never was in southern hemisphere yet but I hope to go there - maybe just at this place or... 8 km further north!

Very inter-hemispheric page! "La mitad del mundo" is not a tourist trap... it is a scientific mistake! ;-)
