Spiez is a lovely village at Thunersee. In Spiez you may see a very interesting palace next to a famous romanic chapel, that is a quite popular church for weddings in Switzerland. Don't miss to see the palace of Spiez also from inside, it is beautifully furnished and from the tower you will have an excellent view over the lake and the surrounding mountains. Next to the palace wine is grown and Spiez is also a popular place to go for a vacation, with plenty of great hotels by the lake, but it is a lot more quiet than Interlaken. Visiting the palace of Spiez is easiest, when you arrive by ship, because the train-station is in a distance of 1500 meters from the palace.
Good news for all VT-ers : Photography is NO problem at all inside the palace !!

Hi Michael, I am investigating ideas for my next trip which is going to be on the drawing board for quite some time I would think. Expect to see me popping into your pages from time to time. Spiez looks wonderful and is definitely worth thinking about. Thanks for another great page.
The LEIBUNDGUT family was linked to the Von Bubenberg's -& a "branch-line"--as the BUBENBERG motto was "LEIB und GUT". Is there a book which attempts to explain the origins of these families? Have BUBENBERG;s taken YDNA tests eg: 67 markers?
It's amusing to see the Swiss Pyramid on your page while making a page about Egyptian Pyramids! Really enjoyed watching landscapes and castles at your pics. Thanks Michael for a splendid virtual travel!
I hope to come to Switzerland one day. Castles Spiez and Oberhofen are on my list to see as well as Swiss Pyramid

What a gorgeous castle, thanks for the highly informative page and the stunning pictures :)
The views from the extra steps are stunning & the castle interior does look as if it stepped out of a fairy tale
Another great page about a Swiss gem! It's years since I've been on top of Niesen, an amazing steep ride up.
What a beautiful area - it must be where postcards were invented!! Schloss Oberhofen looks so scenic, sitting half in the lake! Great Transport tips as always. I laughed at Schloss Spiez stucco repairs - must tell my wife that we should remain 'historic'!
I've never seen so many castles concentrated in one area before. Wonderful vistas ! St Columban ?? Was he Irish I wonder ??It's certainly an Irish name. Very informative and interesting page Michael ))
