"San Blas Islands & the Panama-Canal" Panama by globetrott

Panama Travel Guide: 1,648 reviews and 3,897 photos

I crossed the Panama Canal 4 times onboard of the cruise-ship M/S SAGAFJORD

The whole passage takes about 8 hours, depending on the number of other ships going through the canal with you.

My favorite islands in this aerea are the SAN BLAS ISLANDS
a group of very small islands, some of them only 20 metres wide with a lonely palmtree on it - these looked exactly like the islands drawn for an "island-joke".

Most of the Cuna-Indians come to their native islands only to sell souvenirs to cruise-passengers.

There is NOTHING NEW on this page, I just deleted some of my lousy old tips dating back to my early days on VT ...

One day when I am in the right mood I might make a new page under the location of "San Blas Islands"

Look forward to visiting San Blas islands at the end of my CA trip in winter and learn about culture and lifestyle of the Kunas. Some molas are really beautiful. I saw them in Colombia where they are also on sale.

We're taking our first cruise to Panama in a couple of months. Will have to bring back a Mola or two.

You obviously have fallen in love with the Mollas! I can understand you, they have an amazing variety of inspiration and a very appealing style. The idea of islands specially open for tourists made me smile!

I had never heard of Molas before. They are beautiful with their many different themes and colours! Nice tip about the Coke, in Zambia the big drink was Fanta Orange! Great view of the ship going through the Canal.

Amazingly expensive to go through the Panama Canal, no idea it was that much! I'v crossed the Corinth & Suez, hope to make it over the Panama Canal too some day. The Molas are very beautiful, you must have a very colourful house, nice page Michael! (~_~)

Beautiful molas, esp. the Octopus! FYI, they're made by 'reverse applique' technique, layers of cloth stitched together, then cut away to expose the underlayers...cat

Those molas cost a bit more now. The San Blas are definitely worth a visit.
