Haiti Travel Guide: 333 reviews and 828 photos

I have been twice in Port of Prince/Haiti - and both times it had been the X-mas-day, Dec.24th. 1979 and 1980.

It was a strange feeling to have christmas without snow and it seemed to be even more surrealistic here in Port of Prince :

On one side, there was this cradle set up in a park around the government-building. An absolutely spotless-cleen park and these cradle-figures tall as human beeings...

...and almost nobody of Haiti's population to be seen in that park

It is such a pity, that a wonderful country like Haiti is still not living in freedom.

When I was cruising in the Caribean Sea between 1979 and 1985, there was still the dictator's regime, plenty of policemen and soldiers in the street, picking out people from the crowd and putting them on a truck and took them somewhere...

...it might be a bit better today, but certainly Haiti is not yet a free country and tourists better be careful...

This is also a page about the many souvenirs I brought home from the many stays we had in Haiti, when cruising in the Caribbean.
This wooden figure has a special story ...

Cruise ships haven't stopped in Port-au-Pince for years. They now go to an island just for tourists. The orchestra I played in used to play in the cruise ships for fund raising and lost their support when the ships stopped coming to PAP. Very sad . . .

Absolutely amazing pictures. What a pity it is still dangerous to go there.

Haiti's one of the most interesting island in the world, 1st black republic in L. America and they really strived for freedom, it deserves my attention, I wish to visit there one day! Brazilian troops are there to provide peace and freedon to the country!

Superb paintings and carvings! Haiti has long been a dream destination for me. Not so much now as the security situation has unfortunately not really improved (understatment!). Thank you Michael for sharing!
