Hotel Occam is a small hotel with really beautiful rooms, all of which are decorated with paintings and fotos reminding of the glorious times of artists in Schwabing...
For prices & reservations click on the link below !
On my pic : Bavaria and her lion - to be seen on Theresienwiese
Unique Qualities: Hotel Occam is a great place for everyone, interested in the very special kind of day- & nightlife of Schwabing.
Occamstrasse is just 200 meters from Münchner Freiheit and parallel to Leopoldstrasse.
A perfect hotel when you arrive by plane or by train - BUT NOT with a car , as parking is a desaster in that area !!
Address: Occamstrasse 7, Schwabing, Munich, Bavaria 80802
Directions: Occamstrasse is just 200 meters from Münchner Freiheit and parallel to Leopoldstrasse.
Take U3 and U6 and leave at Münchner Freiheit.

St.Simon in St.Peters church
Hotel Intercity is a hotel directely inside the main train station of Munich / Hauptbahnhof.
When coming from your train simply enter the mainhall, go towards the lugguage-lockers and from there it is just a few meters to the entrance of the hotel.
Unique Qualities: The hotel has a perfect location for everyone travelling by train. all windows are isolated against noise, and when you check the prices of the rooms, please considder, that prices are per ROOM not per person (it is still quite expensive for my taste !)
On my pic : St.Simon as you may see him inside the church St.Peter / "Alter Peter"
Address: Bayerstr. 10, Munich 80335 Munich
Directions: INside of Hauptbahnhof and within walking-distance to Theresienwiese & Oktoberfest !

Dreifaltigkeitskirche
Hotel Bayerischer hof is certainly one of the very best and most popular hotels for the "Bavarian Jet Set" , popstars, polititians and "Schicki Mickies"
On my picture you may see "Dreifaltigkeitskirche" that is just a few meters from the hotel. - the interior was made by C.D.Asam, have a look at my tips "Off the beathen path" for the great interior !
Unique Qualities: The very best quality at one of the best places in the very centre of Munich for a very special, high price...
In your travelbooks you might find "Palais Montgelas" with great empire-halls - it is in fact part of the hotel Bayerischer Hof.
Address: Promenadeplatz 2-6, Munich null
Comparison: most expensive
Directions: In the very centre of Munich - on Promenadenplatz

I was working in this hotel as night auditor.
There are several good sides and bad sides as well, when you stay in this hotel.
Unique Qualities: The hotel is situated in the 11th-13th floor of the former Olympc village of 1972.
In 1972 the building was finished within a short time, built completely by concrete.
There was a time when people thought, these houses are a good investment, but nowadays people try to get rid of them by all means or rent them.
In the whole area strong winds will occur and then you cannot walk certain ways without beeing blown away.
that is even worse in winter, when the wind is icy and the streets are frozen.
The hotel-guests will nostly not realize that, as they have a large parking in the underground, but they might get a strange feeling, when they have to walk through the spooky garage and its long streets.
Address: Helene-mayer-ring 12, 80809 Munich
Comparison: about average
Directions: In the Olympic village, opposite of the BMW-4cylindre building and not for from the Olympic tower

Hotel Arabella & Hypobank
For some years I was working for Arabella hotels in Munich ( before they became Sheraton hotels) and this hotel was always the very best of them.
When you click on my picture (that I took from the tower of St.Peter church), you see the hotel in the back, the big FLAT building on the left, the tower on the right is a bank.
Unique Qualities: The hotel is a great place to stay, when you are able to afford such an exclusive place / or maybe when you have enough bonus-points from your business-trips :-)
The hotel has all the luxury you may expect and is situated in a park,in a big distance to all of the noisy car-trafic.
U-bahn-station Arabella and lots of shops are just in front of the hotel.
Address: Arabellastr. 6, Muenchen 81925
Comparison: most expensive
Directions: Get there by U4 and leave at station Arabellapark

Oktoberfest
Camingplatz Thalkirchen is a really big camping in the south of Munich, along the river Isar.
Do NOT expect a cosy campsite, as this is rather a camping-town, an extreme mixture of tents, motorhomes, cars etc.
Unique Qualities: Some of you might know, That I make many of my travels with my motorhome, a small VW-bus.
Mostly I will not go to a campingsite, but stay in the streets of the towns I travel to.
Such a type of camping is a horror for me, but I may imagine, that for families and people with a tent, this is a good place to go.
Address: Zentralländstr. 49, , Munich, Bavaria 81379
Directions: Thalheim is in the south of Munich !
The camping is in a distance of maybe 500 meters from the U-bahn station Thalheim

Löwenbräu horses on Oktoberfest
I have NO idea, why this hotel is listed umong the hotels in Munich, as it is on the highway to Nürnberg / Nuremberg, and in a distance of 55 km north of Munich.
Unique Qualities: I mainly listed this hotel, as I stayed once there and it is OK for a hotel on the Autobahn, and to a certain extent it might as well be a (rather) good place to stay during Oktoberfest, when all of Munich is totally booked out.
Then you simply have 1 hour to drive to the next P&R and take the S-bahn to Munich
On my picture : Horses of the Löwenbrauerei & their decorations during Oktoberfest.
Click on the pic for the great details, like the small bell on top on the right...
Address: 85301 Geisenhausen
Directions: Directely on A9 - the highway München-Berlin

Around Langwieder See there are a few places, where you may put up your tent and spend the night.
NObody will care a lot, as the hotel does NOT own the ground and most of these places are totally hidden by trees.
Unique Qualities: Camping there is only possible late at night till maybe 08.00 a.m. , and you better put away your tent before the people from Munich arrive, using these places for swimming and sunbathing.
Simply walk around the lake - you may start at the telephone-booths at the hotel, pass by the hotel (the path does NOT belong to them) and you will get to some nice , hidden places.
Park your car on the big parking and try to get to your "camping-place" unseen...
Be aware of the fact, that the parking is used by lots of people, some of them sleeping in their cars, waiting eventually for a good chance to make money, rob you etc....
Address: Kreuzkapellenstr. 89, Muenchen 81249
Directions: Close to the hotel, as described above

Frauenkirche
Hotel Langwieder See is a great hotel with 3 stars in the outskirts of Munich.
In order to stay there you will need a car, or walk 3km to the next S-bahn station Lochhausen !
When you come to Munich over the highway from Stuttgart, just take the exit Lochhausen and drive to the hotel, situated about 300 meters off the highway with a lovely lake in between.
Unique Qualities: The hotel offers room with and without private facilities and might be a cheap place to sleep, when a simple room is OK for you.
Next station of the S-bahn is Lochhausen with a large P&R ! The trains run every 20 minutes to town and within 15 minutes ride you are at the Hauptbahnhof !
The 3 lakes in front of the hotel are one of the favorite places people from Munich go to swim and relax in summer !
On my picture : Frauenkirche, taken with an extreme wide-angle-lens...

Hotel 4Jahreszeiten
Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten is certainly one of the best and also most expensive hotels in Munich.
This type of hotel is not my kind of tea, but I may imagine there are even a few people on VT looking for that kind of hotel !
For more infos and pics - just click on my link below !!
Unique Qualities: In Maximilianstrasse you will find the most exclusive and most expensive shops of Munich, as e.g. the famous tailor Rudolf Moshammer (& his dog Daisy)... :-)
Just a few steps to Hofbräuhaus, to the Opera and the Residenz.
Address: Maximilianstrasse 17 D-80539 Munchen
Comparison: most expensive
Directions: Just tell your chauffer - HE should know !!
Guests of this hotel mostly will NOT arrive by tram, BUT just in case : take tram 19 !!
Price: US$180 and up
