Restaurant Name: Ochsenbraterei

Ochsenbraterei is one of the big beer-tents on Oktoberfest and it is my favorite place, as I love to eat their "Ochsensemmel" - a roll filled with ox-meat from the roast. It costed 4,50 Euros in 2003 and you may take it away and eat it while watching the whole scenery.
When you have a seat on one of the tables, a plate with ox-meat and potatoe-salad is 10,80 € and they have also a lot of other dishes.

As you may see on my picture, they roast the whole ox on a giant spit and during these 2 weeks they prepare a lot more than 50 oxen that way.

Ochsenbraterei offers 5900 seats inside the "tent" and another 1500 seats outside

b.t.w. This tent is one of the few places on Oktoberfest , where you may watch the staff in the kitchen and the service, while preparing the food...

...and you will realize, that this kind of work is really hard !

Restaurant Name: Hofbräu-zelt

The Hofbräu-tent on Oktoberfest is the favorite place of most tourists from USA and Australia.
This tent offers 6898 seats inside and another 3000 outside.

Seats outside of the tents will certainly hear some of the music over the loudspeaker, but the atmoshere is certainly not the same as inside !
During the rain, most of these seats outside will be un-covered!

Favorite Dish:
I mainly go there in order to watch the scenery...
and of course the Hofbräu-tent is a great place to meet Aloisius - the angel who was sent from heaven to deliver a message and some advices for the bavarian governement...

...but he went to Hofbräu-haus instead

Fischer's Vroni roasts fresh fish

Restaurant Name: Fischer - Vroni

Fischer - Vroni is another one of my favorite places to go for a snack, as they roast all sorts of fishes in the traditional way with char-coal, as you may see it on my picture.

And the whole area around the tent smells really great !!

The tent is a bit smaller, but also less crowded with 2700 seats inside and another 700 seats outside.

Favorite Dish: Various sorts of fishes are roasted fesh the whole day, and you actually pay the price according to the size.

Hippodrom on Oktoberfest

Restaurant Name: Hippodrom

Hippodrom is a bit different from the other big tents, as it has also a champagne-bar and a nice decoration with wooden caroussel-horses and a lot more !

I still remember the time, when real horses had a small area inside the tent, where they had to go around in a circle with drunken guests riding them....

That time is over now, and also the smell inside the tent is a lot better now :-)

The tent is a bit smaller than others and offers just 3200 seats inside and 1000 seats outside.

Reservations are mostly a MUST there !!

Favorite Dish: When you don't like beer - Hippodrom offers also Champagne and great wines at the bar !

Augustiner in Munich

Restaurant Name: Augustiner Bierhalle

Augustiner is one of the most beautiful traditional inns in Munich. It is situated in the pedestrian area and has this wonderful " beergarden " in the back of the building.
I was there in october, and it was a bit too cold to sit outside, but in summer it will be hard to get any of these tables.

Favorite Dish:
Schweinsbraten with Knödel / Knoedel and a fresh beer.
There are different kinds of Knödel / Knoedel in Bavaria:
Semmelknödel - made of rolls
Kartoffelknödel - made of potatoes

Bratwurstglöckle on Oktoberfest

Restaurant Name: Bratwurstglöckle

Bratwurstglöckle is my favorite place to get some Bratwurst or other sausages on Oktoberfest.

And there is also an ordinary restaurant of Bratwurstglöckle close to Marienplatz, next to Fraunkirche.

On Oktoberfest they have just 98 seats inside the restaurant, for reservations call:

Favorite Dish:
Bratwurst in any kind - try all of them and decide for yourself !
In Bavaria you will also find out , that mustard does not always have to be spicy and hot...

"Süsser Senf" - sweet mustard is mostly served with Weisswurst but also with others.

In general any kind of food is really expensive on Oktoberfest, so be prepared to pay more than normally.

Armbrustschützen-Zelt is one of the traditional big tents on Oktoberfest and they have also some kind of shooting-competition as a special entertainment.
Just have a look for the typical kind of decorations.

The tent offers 5800 seats inside and another 1600 outside the tent.

Oktoberfest is NOT ONLY just beer and fat meat...

...for Chiara, Rosie and all the other people with a sweet tooth ( including myself ) there is a big choice of sweet stands all over Theresienwiese !

And they also look really sweet in every sense of the word...

Favorite Dish: These big "Lebkuchenherzen" (gingerbread) with the lovely inscriptions are not really ment to be eaten, but you also get smaller gingerbreads to eat right away, and they serve coffee, tea or Glühwein as well.

My favorite sweet is "Magenbrot" - similar to gingerbread

Beim Sedlmayr is a nice restaurant in Bavarian style. It once belonged to Walter Sedlmayr and was opened just a short time before he was murdered.

Mo-Fr 09.00 a.m.-10:00 p.m.
Sa 08:00 a.m.-04:00p.m.
closed on Sundays !

They have just 120 seats - so it makes sense to reserve a table maybe :

Favorite Dish: This is a place where ordinary people go and sometimes even Bavarian Schiki-Mickies...
Prices are about average and the food is fine !
