Hofbräuhaus: How did Alois Hingerl become angel ALOISIUS ???

Favorite Thing: Alois Hingerl - Dienstmann Nr. 172 , aka "Aloisius" is one of the most popular caracters created by Ludwig Thoma.
Alois Hingerl was working as an outporter (I found this word for Dienstmann in my dictionary, but it sounds strange to me) at the trainstation in Munich and died during his duty. He came to heaven and was not able to adapt to the "strange customs" of the angels singing Hallelujah all day long. He started to shout at St.Peter and God, and so they had the idea to send him down to Munich again for 1 day every week , in order to take some letters with "advices from heaven" for the governement of Bavaria. So angel Aloisius flew down to the townhall, took down his wings and thought, why not having a beer in Hofbräuhaus before delivering the letter...
In Hofbräuhaus he had one beer after the other, and could not stop it, but finally forgot the letter for the governement...
Aloisius is still sitting there, having his beer, and the governement still does not know what to do... This is a simply translation of the story of Aloisius.
Fondest Memory: If you are able to understand german, you might like to read the story, with all the funny details under this link :

Favorite Thing: Neuschwanstein is one of the very top destinations of Bavaria and even Europe. The castle was built by king Ludwig II of Bavaria, and shortly after it was finished, the kind died under strange circumstances. He spent just 9 days inside the castle, that was opened to the public already a few days after his death, as the state of Bavaria needed a lot of money to pay for the castles of King Ludwig.
There are a lot more pics and infos on my Neuschwanstein-page !
Neuschwanstein - 6 Km east of Fuessen / 60 Km south of Munich

Favorite Thing: Wieskirche is a rather large church, surrounded by a few houses only.
It started all with a miracle in 1740 and since then lots of pilgrims come to this lovely church, that is even a bit over-loaded with ornaments, paintings and frescoes.
When driving by car from Munich towards Fuessen, you will pass by it, it is just 6 Km off the regular road.
Wieskirche is about 7 Km east of Steingaden

General Tips: Daytrip to Linderhof Castle
Tip Rating: |
Favorite Thing: Schloss Linderhof was the smallest castle of "mad" king Ludwig of Bavaria. It was also the only one that he could finish and spend some time there. The castle is surrounded by a great park with several pavillions like the Maurish Kiosk with the golden dome, that you may see on my pic-combination. Linderhof is also the ONLY castle of Ludwig, where you may take pics inside ( but without flash and tripod)
There are a lot more pics and infos on my Linderhof-page !!
Linderhof castle is about 15 km west of Oberammergau & Ettal

General Tips: Daytrip to Füssen / Fuessen

Favorite Thing: Fuessen is a small town on the south-border of Bavaria. Mainly the tourists go there in order to see the famous castles of "mad" King Ludwig II of Bavaria, who rather invested his (and Bavaria's) money into great and pittoresque castles instead of weapons... Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau are just 6 Km off Fuessen.
Füssen is also well known for its great castle - seen on my pic - the monastery of Mang and lots of lovely baroque houses in the old town of Fuessen
On the south border of Bavaria, on the road to Innsbruck/Austria

General Tips: Excursion to Ettal

Favorite Thing: Ettal is a small village in the very south of Bavaria, close to Garmisch Partenkirchen and Oberammergau. In 1330 the monastery was founded and rebuilt in baroque style during the 17th century. Do not miss the great interior, with excellent paintings on the ceiling and the walls, and a lot of golden ornaments, that make this church really special. There is a big parking right in front of the monastery that may be visited freely any time during the day.
There are more infos and pics about it on my Ettal-page !!
About 60 Km south of Munich, and 10 Km north of Garmisch Partenkirchen !

Favorite Thing: Oberammergau is a small town 20 Km north of Garmisch Partenkirchen. In Oberammergau you will see plenty of houses with paintings on the outside-walls. They are called " Lueflmalerei " and date back to the the 18th century, when rich farmers tried to show their prosperity by these decorations.
For more pics and infos - please have a look on my Oberammergau-page !
20 Km north of Gamisch Partenkirchen and maybe 80 Km south of Munich

General Tips: Excursions - Rothenburg ob der Tauber
Tip Rating: |
Favorite Thing: Rothenburg ob der Tauber is a MUST for every tourist !! It could easily be visited with a daytrip from Munich. Rothenburg ob der Tauber is the only town in Europe, that is still completely surrounded by the medieval wall and also all the houses inside these wall are still completely built in that time
Fondest Memory: The old town is just a few steps from the trainstation - and you may see all important places within 2-3 hours, just walking all streets and a bit of the walls - like I did last summer, when I took all the pics you see on my Rothenburg-page within 2 hours on my way back home...

General Tips: To Starnberg by S-bahn
Tip Rating: |
Favorite Thing: Starnberger See and the town of Starnberg is just about 1 hour to go with S6. Directely at the S-bahn-station you may start to walk along the lake or enter one of the many boats in order to explore the Starnberger See.
In Berg, just opposite of the town Starnberg you will pass by a small cross indide the lake - it shows the place, where Bavaria's "mad" King Ludwig II was found dead under strange circumstances. He drowned togeather with his doctor, who had declared him unsane the day before...
...BUT the king was a good swimmer...
Fondest Memory: For 6 months I was working in Restaurant Undosa - it is the biggest restaurant in Starnberg with about 1000 seats in the garden directely at the lake and piano-music and dance every day in summer. A hard job, but well payed at that time in 1986...
