Off The Beaten Path: The medieval townwalls and the moat

In many places all over Nürnberg / Nuremberg you may still see the original townwalls of the Middle Ages, and mostly they are perfectely integrated into the town-architecture of today. On my picture you may see "Fetter Turm" (fat tower) and the moat that was onces filled with water and makes a perfect area for walks and partly even to park cars. The moat is around 4 meters below the level of the ordinary streets. This picture was taken from the bridge leading from the trainstation to Handwerkerhof.

Off The Beaten Path: walk along the old townwalls

In the middle of my picture you may see the townwall dating back to the medieval times. You may walk along these walls for quite a long time and you may even still see the big corridor, where the armed soldiers could run to and fro, when defending the town. At many places there will be additional towers and only at a few places you have a possibility to get outside of the walls, where you mostly will get to recreational areas inside the moat.
You certainly need a whole day to entirely explore all of these walls.
