Local Customs: Paris Court / Parizsi udvar

Paris Court / Parizsi udvar is a shopping-centre and appartment-house dating back to the year 1911. It still looks impressive from outside and is well worth to walk through the Art-Nouveau-arcades, made in neo-gothic and partly bycantinian style. At some places it has domes, arcades and fancy ornaments and there it looks rather like a church than a shopping-centre. Unfortunately plenty of the shops are closed today, and walking through it might be a bit spooky sometimes, but I may highly recommend it, especially when you like old architeture.
Pariser Hof / Paris Court / Parizsi udvar is in the very centre of Budapest, where Kigyo ut meets Kossuth ut. This is just about 100 meters from the Klothilden-palace and just 400meters from Elisabeth-bridge.

Local Customs: IBUSZ - travelagency in Parizsi udvar

IBUSZ was the travelagency owned by the Hungarian state already in Communiste times and it still exists and might in some cases be the best place to get informations about remote places in Hungary and all of the former east-bloc countries.
I mainly took a closer look at them, because they have this lovely decorations at the entrance of their shop in Paris Court / Parizsi Udvar.
The entrance is directely at Liberty Square / Felszabadulas tér and is also well lighted at night. When you click on my link below, you will see that they also have an english and german-webpage and they sometimes also have special offers for your stay in Budapest !!

Local Customs: August 20th & St.Stephen's reliquies

Every year on August 20th a special procession will be held in St.Stephen's Basilika : Saint Istvan was canonized in the year 1083. Since then every year on august 20th - the nameday of Saint Istvan, all poor people had the right to go to Szekesfehervar on that holyday ,in order to have an audience with the king. At the same day there was a celebration in front of the Holy Right Hand and the Grave of Saint Stephen. Later the audience at the king was forgotten, but the celebration remained with the procession of the Holy Hand, starting and ending at the Bazilika.
Thanks a lot, Rea, for that infos !!
On my picture : The crown of St.Stephen - shown as a replica in the treasury of the basilika. While you may enter the Basilka free of charge, you have to pay a small entrance-fee of 200 hufl ( 0,80 €uros) to see the small treasury of the Basilika .

Local Customs: Gellert Spa / Gellért gyógy fürdö

Gellertbad / Gellert Spa / Gellért gyógy fürdö is one of the main attractions in Budapest at a place, where already the old Romans found thermal waters. The spa as you see it today dates back to the year 1911 and has plenty of great Art Nouveau-decorations all over the building, in the entrancehall (see my picture) and swimming-halls. In the same building you also find a hotel with 240 beds - see my hotel-tips !! I only took this picture of the entrancehall, but maybe I will next time take one of the rather cheap offers of the hotel at special times.

Local Customs: A small-scale-model for blind tourists

Mainly for blind tourists you may find a small-scale-model of Matyas-church, the Fisher-Bastion and the monument for king István in front of the church. An inscripition in braille is added as well. In my case it was good to see it, as the biggest part of the church was un-visable because of restoration-works going on. On my picture you may also get an idea, how the whole area of Fisher bastion is well lighted during the night, as I took all of my pics there without any flash or tripod, just with a good digital camera and a lens with 1:1,8/35mm
