Remagen is a lovely small town in the Rhine-valley, BUT famous and well known is it mainly because of the "Bridge of Remagen" - it was the last remaining bridge over the Rhine and although Hitler tried hard to destroy it in the last moment, the American troups could use it to move forward across the Rhine for several weeks...

Michael, brilliant photos of this historical interesting bridge. Useful information as well. Remagen isn't that far from where I live, perhaps I should visit it sometime in the future.
I can fully confirm your tip on the Restaurant Da Franco -- I accidentally had dinner there with my parents 2 days ago and found their pizzas excellent!
I knew about this bridge but would never have remembered the name. I learned about it in my History class in High School. Great tips Michael!
Hm, da habe ich wohl 'was verpasst! Remagen sieht wunderschoen aus!
Wieder eine interessante Seite. Ich fahre trotzdem nicht zu "Rhein in Flammen" sondern zum VT-Treffen in Verona
Great page Michael! I love those half timbered houses! The "Rhein in Flammen" sounds like a great event :-) And that bridge is of course famous! I heard a lot about it, but great to see it for real on your page!
The battle for the Bridge was hard fought, though several crossings to the South made its collapse not as important. Obviously so important, it the Bundesrepublik hasn't re-erected it:-) Maybe something to do with all of those villas?
I have heard many things about the bridge at Remagen but never really knew what it looked like. Thanks, Michael, for this great page on the bridge and it's surroundings! What a massive stoneworks it had - too bad that it is now gone.
strange - everybody knows about the "Bridge of Remagen", but all they have got there to cross the Rhine is a car-ferry;
Gorgeous page Michael...:-)))
