The church of Duchkov - Duchcov

The church of Duchkov

The church is part of the ensemble

The church is part of the ensemble of the castle. It is a pity it was closed already , when I was there.
The castle and church were under restorantion in july 2003 and could not be visited.
Unfortunately I have no idea, when they will be open again

Duchkov from the backside - Duchcov

Duchkov from the backside

a poor terrace

Also the back-terrace of the castle looks very poor and would need a lot of money for restoration.
Inside the castle, that you may enter only through the main-entrance, you may see various exhibitions with Baroque sculptures, antique furniture and paintings.

"fountains" in Duchkov castle / Schloss Dux - Duchcov

"fountains" in Duchkov castle / Schloss Dux

poor fountains

I am sure the fountains of the old castle at Casanova's time looked much different. These tiny springs reminded be a lot of the poor times of Communisme.
But unfortunately Duchkov is rather unknown and tourists get here more "accidentally", so it will certainly take some time untill everything will be perfectely renovated.

Duchkov castle ornament - Duchcov

Duchkov castle ornament

last reminds of glorious ornaments

This lion-sculpture was one of the very few ornaments I saw on the back-wall of the castle, close to the poor fountain.
Isn't it a pity, there is not much more left over...
The park may be visited freely andn there are no gates that might be closed at certain times.

Duchkov - the castle garden

Duchkov - the castle-park

The former park of the castle was a bit reduced after WW II and it is mostly in a very bad condition.
Some part of it was used to get brown-coal by outcrob, the rest would a lot of work, except a rather small part close to the castle

Duchkov - the town-square

On the townsquare of Duchkov you may see some nice houses with great architecture and the small "Cafe Casanova" .
There will also be a good place to park your car close to the castle.

Casanova - librarian of count Waldstein

Organizing a library was a bit different at that time, when bookshops were not found in any small town.
Casanova had a lot of time to write his memoirs "Histoire de ma vie"
Today you may visit the livingrooms of Casanova, see a wax-figure of him, the chair, where he died and a lot more.

Casanova - asylum in Schloss Dux

Casanova came to Duchkov in 1785, and he became a good friend of count Waldstejn.
Casanova was 60 years old at that time and he had plenty of troubles with his affairs at many places, so he was happy to get some sort of a "asylum" in Duchkov

Duchkov / Dux - 7 km from Teplice

Duchkov is a rather small village, just about 7 Km south-east of Teplice. The village is known for it's brown-coal, the Royal-Dux-Porcelain, and last, but not least as the place, where CASANOVA spent the last 13 years of his life and wrote his memoirs.
