the old well of Hradec Kralove - Hradec Kralove

the old well of Hradec Kralove

The medieval well of Hradec Kralove

You might easily oversee the lovely old town-well of Hradec Kralove, situated in the middle of Velke namesti / the town square.

Just imagine the old medieval times, when everybody from town had to get all the water from that well and carry it in bottles and jugs to their homes for all of the cooking and washing...

The entrance to the cathedral - Hradec Kralove
The entrance to the cathedral

Have a look at the great back-entrance to the cathedral.
I saw the gate that way, when I arrived the first evening of my stay, when the cathedral was locked already.

During the day it will be open and you may enter freely and take your pics without restrictions. ( unfortunately some other churches in Bohemia have a sign of "no photography")

A small church under the golden Tiara - Hradec Kralove
A small church under the golden Tiara

When you see the huge golden Tiara and the keys of St.Peter on top of St. Klemens church, you might get the impression that church has to be quite big.

In fact it is just a tiny chapel with a few benches for maybe 80 persons and a lovely main-altar.

Next to the entrance you will see an inscription to commemorate the visit of Pope Johannes Paul II on april 26th, 1997

The church of the Assumption of Holy Mary - Hradec Kralove
The church of the Assumption of Holy Mary

The interior of the church of the Assumption of Holy Mary was my favorite in Hradec Kralove.
It simply looks great with all the great baroque ornaments and paintings.
It is just a pity, that you may not really enter the church, except for the church services, but you have to look through an iron-fence next to the back-entrance.

At least I was able to take a picture...

The cathedral of Hradec Kralove - Hradec Kralove
The cathedral of Hradec Kralove

The cathedral of Hradec Kralove / Koeniggraetz may be visited freely during the day and will be locked around 06.00p.m.

The church was built between 1307 and 1463 and the interior that you may see today is in gothic style.
Do not miss the famous painting " Holy Antonius" by Peter Brandl (1730).
On my picture you see the main altar.
