I came only once into the DDR - the so-called " German Democratic Republic "
M/S Vistafjord had Rostock on the schedule for a port of call during a cruise, and so I had a short look into the socialist paradise...
I never wanted to visit the DDR, as long as " the wall " existed...
...BUT, seen from the sea-side there was NO wall, so I gave it a try....

Nice glimpses of Rostock in DDR times. I spent a week there for a conference in November 1989 -- the week the wall was opened! Strange euphoric atmosphere that they have not had before or since. | german_eagle Fri Apr 22, 2005 20:30 UTC
