I came only once into the DDR - the so-called " German Democratic Republic "

M/S Vistafjord had Rostock on the schedule for a port of call during a cruise, and so I had a short look into the socialist paradise...

I never wanted to visit the DDR, as long as " the wall " existed...

...BUT, seen from the sea-side there was NO wall, so I gave it a try....

Nice glimpses of Rostock in DDR times. I spent a week there for a conference in November 1989 -- the week the wall was opened! Strange euphoric atmosphere that they have not had before or since.

Die Besuche in der DDR bei meiner Tante waren immer sehr deprimierend ! Schöne Bilder aus vergangenen Zeiten, jetzt ist alles viel besser dort !

I was in Rostock prior to taking a ferry to Denmark in May of 2001. I didn't think so much of the town but you saw more and now I want to go back. Nice to see the old pics.

What an interesting page! This brings back memories of my visit of Poland in 1989. There was sitting a man on a bench in front of a shop waiting for a TV, because he got the info that there well delievered some TVs MAYBE ....
