Duernstein / Wachau

by globetrott - last update: Jun 12, 2003

Duernstein is one of the most beautiful places you may visit in the WACHAU -( the Danube-valley between Krems and Melk)

on top of the mountain you may see the ruins of an old castle - in this castle Richard Lionheart was held in prison after a cruisade .
The old monestary of Duernstein is worth seeing not only from outside, but has also a great interior
2 nice young ladies having a break after climbing up to the castle-ruins...

Great stuff on your Dürnstein pages, Michael. It will certainly be included in my next trip to Austria. As usual, your concise writing brings life to your pictures. I don't know if I have enough time in my life to get to all of your pages. Prosit to you!

I just love austrian baroque. This monastery is a good example to illustrate the amazing arts of this period.

Your pic of the church and grape vines popped up on the front page of VT. Looks like a wonderful hillside to walk in the sun.
