Grein an der Donau is a lovely village not very far from Melk, just about 30km upstream on the river Danube ! |
| | In Grein you will find the oldest theatre in Austria ! |
| | And Greinburg with a lot of interesting details like on my picture : Sala Terrena / Steinernes Theater
This page is dedicated to Phil (VT-member Zrim) who came by cruiseship on a monday morning for a few hours only to Grein, and had the feeling, there isn't a lot to see here... --- My conclusion : always check your itinerary, when cruising rivers ! In spring and autumn it is getting dark early and most ships go from Passau to Melk by night and you miss the best parts like Donauschlinge, Grein, Linz etc. |

bugulma Wed Jan 9, 2008 11:02 UTC Nice to see the oldest theatre of Austria. There is wonderful performnace hall in Greinburg. | Kuznetsov_Sergey Tue Jan 1, 2008 12:29 UTC Another delicious place in Austria - another perfect page of yours, Michael! Like Altes Stadttheater is the oldest theatre in Austria as Gonzago Theatre in Arkhangelskoye is one of the oldest theatres in Russia. Happy New Year! | tiabunna Mon Dec 31, 2007 07:31 UTC You've convinced me, Michael, we'll have to visit Grein whenever we find ourselves in Austria again. I'm still getting over the idea of even the prisoners being allowed a private seat in the theatre! :)) | lotharlerch Mon Dec 24, 2007 08:03 UTC Right at the Danube but still a bit off the beaten path. Really worth a visit! |
