    When you are leaving the monastery of Melk you may see this stand on the right, shortly before you get to the stairs, leading to the large car-park.
    A local farmer displays there his brandies and wines, self-made candles and soap, just that kind of goods that were traditionally always sold in places, where pilgrims would go. All liquors and wines may be tasted there as well, before buying them !!

    What To Buy: I may highly recommend to taste some "MOHNZELTEN" - see my 3rd picture : It is a small cake, filled with poppy-seeds and tastes really great !

    What To Pay: I payed 1,50 Euros for such a cake - it is really worth it and made a great snack before driving home.

    The museum-shop of Stift Melk is at the very end of the tour through the monastery and besides postcards and brochures in various languages you may buy there also some wine, that is produced in Melk by the monks and is an important factor in the business of the monastery.

    What To Buy: On my 3rd picture you may see a small-scale-model of Stift Melk. It is made of paper and might be a great souvenir for children. You may also get free brochures there about other monasteries in Austria.

    What To Pay: Prices are not higher than at other places and many postcards about the museum are available ONLY in that shop.
