Semmering is a mountain-massiv in a distance of 70 km south of Vienna. The trainline that was built over this mouintain in the 19th century recently became a UNESCO- World Heritage
Semmering is also a village, where you may go for skiing in winter and start various hikings in summertime...
Schneeberg is a mountain closeby Semmering and a train gets you uphill from Puchberg
Rax is another well-known area for summer- and wintersports: A Cablecar gets you uphill and you may walk in a scenic landscape and enjoy real Edelweiss in the alpine-garden.

Michael, very interesting page about the Semmering. I especially find the transportation tips helpful. As you know I only made it to Muerzzuschlag on a daytrip from Vienna. :-)
