Pension Dr. Geissler is a 3star-pension in the very centre of Vienna, just about 200 meters from Schwedenplatz or from Stephansdom. See their web-page, it has the same management as Pension Neuer Markt. Something quite interesting for VT-members & VT-meetings might be the fact, that appartments with a total of 5 beds in different rooms are available for reasonable prices.
and psst, don't tell anyone : at the reception you may meet me mostly at friday&saturday at night...

Unique Qualities: When reserving a room in Pension Dr.Geissler you will have to give your Creditcard-number + and expiration-date, (that has to be still valid when you arrive). These numbers will be olny CHECKED electronically and will be used ONLY to reserve the room. Money will be DEDUCTED from your creditcard JUST IN CASE that you will not arrive - so they NEVER deduct anything before the reserved date of arrival !!
I think this is a really good system for the hotel & the customers !!

This Pension is perfect, when you arrive by train or plane:
the hotel-bus will meet you for 10 Euros at the airport
for 7 Euros at the train-stations of Vienna -
you simply have to book it when reserving the room !
When you stay at least 7 days - the pick-up is free !!
In Vienna's centre parking-charges will apply
Monday till Friday between 09.00a.m. and 10.00p.m.
in the centre of Vienna, when you arrive by car,
and so the reception will help you to find a good parking for you:
there is a limited number of day-tickets for parking in the centre, it is just 4,60 Euros per day, BUT you have to find a free parking-lot on your own...
Parking at various garages is available at the reception
for prices between 11 and 14 Euros a day !
When arriving at Schwedenplatz and turning right into Postgasse, be carefull, not to collide with the tram, you will have to cross its rails of both directions, so watch out for them, when entering Postgasse.
Tram ALWAYS goes first in Vienna !!

Directions: By car you have to go around the Ringstrasse (it is a one-way-street) and turn right shortly after Schwedenplatz. There is a seperate lane to turn right in front of Hotel Capricorno - this is the right way to get to Pension Dr.Geissler !!

Pension Neuer Markt

Pension Neuer Markt is in the very centre of Vienna, just about 50 meters from Kaerntner Strasse.Take the lift up to the 2nd floor to get to the hotel-reception there.
Take a closer look at the great facade of this building - it dates back to the great time of the end of the 19th century, when all the palaces along the Ringstrasse were built.

Unique Qualities: Have a look at the link , and take a closer look for the prices as well !
The best thing about this hotel is the excellent location : In the very centre and at the same time in a quiet area with almost no car-trafic at all. All rooms have TV, radio and private facilities !

NOT Hotel Modul on this picture !

Hotel Modul is the Luxury-hotel, run partly with students of the hotel-magment-school I attended a lot of years ago.

On my pic : a great Art Nouveau facade in Vienna

Unique Qualities: The hotel is surrounded by a small park and has some more great parks nearby.
Have a look at the link below !

I may highly recommend the hotel , IF you search for :
recreation
a quiet surrounding
excellent service & food
if you intend and may afford to make sightseeing with a taxi or limousine-service

IF you like to go sightseeing by bus, tram and subway - I may NOT recommend it , as it takes about 30 minutes by bus 40A to the Ringstrasse, and this bus will not run very often.

The Guertel and Hotel Ibis

Hotel Ibis is just about 300 meters off Westbahnhof - Vienna's biggest train-station.

This hotel has plenty of rooms and will - like most Ibis-hotels - offer good rates at special dates or the weekends !

Unique Qualities: This big hotel with more than 15 floors was built completely new a few years ago, directely on the Guertel ( the street with the most heavy trafic in Vienna)
The windows are certainly sound-proof, but you have to be prepared that sleeping with open window will be almost impossible.

Tram Nr. 6 and 18 are directely opposite the hotel.
The subway to the centre is in a distance of 300 meters.

Westbahnhof & the Dorint-hotel

Hotel Dorint is a newly built hotel inside a traditional building just a few meters from Vienna's biggest trainstation "Westbahnhof"

Unique Qualities: You simply get out of the train and take the exit on the upper level on the left, or you go down the escalator and turn to the left in front of the station.
about 100 meters to walk from there and cross 1 street.

Just opposite the hotel you may take tram 18 to Belvedere
or the subway to the opera

Stiftskirche reflecting

I often thought I should NOT write about this hotel at all, but finally I thought it is best to tell you my experiences - even if they happened lots of years ago and the hotel might be under a different managment now.

On my pic : Stiftskirche is reflected in the "Virgin"-store on Mariahilfer Strasse - THERE you go towards the church and along the Stiftskaserne and walk to Lindengasse, just behind the gerngross-shoppingcentre

Unique Qualities: First the positive things :
The hotel is well located, rather in the centre, just behind Gerngross - departmentstore (Mariahilferstrasse)

My negative experiences of some years ago:
This hotel makes overbookings of 10-20% and the first guests arriving get the rooms, all the others are sent to nearby or not so nearby hotels.
Just imagine you get a taxi from the airport, get out, take your luggage to reception on 1st floor simply to find out that you have to go to another hotel, pay another taxi and loose a lot of your precious time in Vienna.

Unfortunately this practice is ABSOLUTELY legal and usual all over the world...
...BUT while it happens in most hotels only accidentally, in THIS hotel it is a principal, to overbook.
AND they also ask for the deposit of the 1st night, and will send you away anyway...

Palais Trautson in Vienna

Austria Trend Hotel beim Theresianum is close to Karlskirche and Karlsplatz , and the Favoritenstrasse is rather quiet in that area, with just a tiny bit of local trafic.

Unique Qualities: This hotel is a great middle-class-hotel, rather quiet and still close to the centre !
...and when you like to know, what Theresianum means ...

...it is the boarding school with a large park just opposite of it.
A school with former pupils like globerover, globetrott and many others...

Hotel Roemischer Kaiser is in the very centre of Vienna, just a few meters from Kaerntner Strasse with the Opera and St.Stephens cathedral.

NOT at all a cheap place , BUT a perfect hotel inside a historic building.
Have a look at the link below !

Unique Qualities: This great , traditional hotel is the perfect place to stay, when you like to go to the opera or the nearby Casino, to Musikvereinssaal or Kuenstlerhaus etc.

Annagasse is pedestrian zone and in front of the hotel you even have a small garden-restaurant.

The Ambassador

Hotel Ambassador is one of the best hotels in the very centre of Vienna.
In my opinion it does not look very special from OUTside (as you may see on my picture) BUT it looks great from INside with an excellent restaurant and bar .

Unique Qualities: Hotel Ambassador is a 5star-hotel directely on Kaerntner Strasse and with a back-entrance at Neuer Markt ( seen on my pic )
