I was living and working for 3 years in Switzerland between 1972 and 1980 and returned many times for vacations. And since 2010 I am working again there most of the year !

Pros and Cons

Pros:great scenery, beautiful landcapes
Cons:more expensive than the rest of Europe

Michael, excellent overview about Switzerland, especially with all these special transportation deals. Although I have now seen quite a lot of Switzerland, there is still a lot left for new adventures. I haven't heard about these free birthday offers.

Useful information about where and when to visit the most famous mountain areas! So Axalp is where you started your hotel career! I also lived in Switzerland for one year = two semesters at the University of Bern, but that was quite a while ago, LOL.
