"A remote island, stone-huts and puffins" Great Skelligs by globetrott

Great Skelligs Travel Guide: 63 reviews and 107 photos

THIS is a place, you should visit, when in Ireland !!

Christian Monks built their huts on the remote island at about 600 A.D.

Today only Puffins and lots of other seabirds are living on the island

But you may still see many of the great bee hive huts, built of stones only, without any cement

Yes indeed, sailing to Skellig Michael was the highlight of one of our Ireland tours too ! It is great to see your photos. It is good that most tourists remain on the mainland, that leave Skellig for the boldest (!)

Hey Michael, long time no VT. Just returned from Ireland and the biggest disappointment was the cancellation of our Skellig trip due to weather. So i'm checking out what we missed.

Kerry is one of my favourite parts of Ireland and I'm returning there again this summer. Haven't been to the Skelligs before so will make sure to include them this time. I'll remember what you said about the Skellig Experience.

Woops I realised I rated these gr8 pages last year....Never mind this deserves a double rating as it has to be one of those places you visit and after the boat trip remember it for the rest of your life. I sure do and it was 37 yrs ago I was there.Tim

What a great adventure Michael!! The 600 steps would be too difficult for me, but standing on the limb of a tree to powder my nose would be impossible! lol

Great photos of this amazing place Michael! This truly would be a memorable experience. I saw some smaller beehive huts on the Dingle Peninsula a few years ago - ingenious structures!

sorry you are very wrong. No boats go from Waterville.90% go from either Port Magee or Ballinskelligs(the best boat is in Ballinskelligs). Boats go every day not just sundays during April to September. The Skelligs are paradise and Irelands best day out.
