Herculamneum is much more than the " smaller brother " of Pompeji...
...In fact there a some reasons to visit Herculaneum as well, when you are interested in every-day-life of the old Romans |
| | Herculaneum was covered by a different kind of ashes - and at most places, no hot lava could burn down wooden structures...
...and therefore many things of everyday life could be seen there and they are perfectly conserved all these more than 1900 years |
| | Herculaneum was a town with about 5000 inhabitans, the streets were much smaller than in Pompeji.
You will need about 2 hours to see the most important things. |

victorwkf Fri Aug 8, 2008 09:16 UTC Hi Michael, great page on historical Herculaneum! How are you lately? I just came back from holidays in Canada and it was a great trip :) | robertgaz Wed Jun 18, 2008 00:45 UTC Fascinating that these ancient lives are so similar to our 'modern' day living! | TheWanderingCamel Tue Jan 16, 2007 02:28 UTC I was taken to Herculaneum in 1970,soon after that it was closed to the public for another 30 years. We were the only people there that day. An extraordinary place, and a good page here about it. leyle | iNorv9 Sun Feb 5, 2006 20:27 UTC Thanks for the helpful info on Herculaneum.... think I'll check it out now. |
