Genua - Main train station - Stazione Prinzipe - Genoa

Genua - Main train station - Stazione Prinzipe

Stazione Principe Trains Review

This is the main train station of Genoa - just a few hundred meters off the cruise-port. There is nothing special there, except a big statue of Columbus and a rather expensive internet-cafe across the big square. And when you leaving the station you should be careful not to enter the tiny small streets on the right ( towards the port ) - it might be a bit unsafe at certain times of the day and especially at night...

At Stazione Principe it is almost impossible to park a car there !

Genua - the cable-car to Righi - Genoa

Genua - the cable-car to Righi

funicolare al Righi

This cablecar to Righi is part of the public bus- and train-network and is included in the all-day-ticket of the city of Genua. It will take you on top of one of the mountains with a great view over the city of Genua. The total ride will take about 15 minutes and will cost 1,- €uro one way.
You may buy the tickets at little machines at the entrance !

Genua - Fiat 500 - Genoa

Genua - Fiat 500

DO NOT drive your car inside town

Driving your private car in Genua is NOT at all recommendable.

The public transportations (trains, buses, cable cars etc.) are rather good and cheap and driving with your own car is simply dangerous and a lot of stress.

Italians are GOOD and SAFE drivers, but they have another style of driving :
They will not care a lot for trafic lights, they will mostly not stop at a zebra-crossing, when you wait to cross the street...
BUT mostly they will stop when necessary in the VERY LAST second...

When driving in Genua - try to do it in one of the lovely Fiat 500 - they fit into almost every spot and may even park in a garden

Genua - rent a bike - Genoa

Genua - rent a bike

rent a bike

The port-area is rather wide and so it might make sense to rent such a very special kind of bike.

Genua - Stazione Brignole - Genoa

Genua - Stazione Brignole

Statione Brignole

It looks rather like a Palazzo - BUT it is one of the 2 big train-stations :

Genua Brignole - on the east part of Genua .

When making an appointement or hotel-reservation simply make sure, you leave at the right station !!

And if you are lucky and have an appointement with Chiara...

...THIS is the station, where she will meet you, as it is less complicated to park her car in that area ( BUT it is complicated enough to get a parking !!!)

Genua's backyard - Genoa

Genua's backyard

the highways around Genua

Lots of highways will take the maintrafic to Genua coming from the west- or east-coast of Liguria or from the north - like here on my pic seen from Righi.

It is rather confusing and not easy to find the right exit when you drive alone (like I mostly do) - so simply be prepared with an excellent map, or try to stay in the outskirts of town and go in by train

Ambassadore San Paolo (utttz)... - Genoa
Ambassadore San Paolo (utttz)...

Ambassadore San Paolo (utttz) recommends to go by motorbike - easy to park even in front of 'Library San Paolo' ...

...and I may only add : WHY NOT ???

(I simply took the picture of Paolo and his motorbike and found out about the 'liberia San Paolo', when scanning - if you enlarge the pic - you will see what I mean)
