Take the ship from Portovenere

Take the ship from Portovenere - you normally will have 3 hours to explore the village of Monterosso al Mare.

The ship will dock at the old part of town, just opposite the church and under the castle-rock.

This is the view looking back towards Vernazza - which is found in the next bay, after a sailing-time of about 10 minutes.

And you may also see the terraces, where the path from Vernazza will go across and will finally come down in the small path seen at the end of the Monterosso-bay

Take a walk from Vernazza

Walking through the fertile terraces of Cinque terre from Vernazza to Monterosso al Mare will take about 1,5 hours.

You will have to pay an entry-fee of 3,5 € for the National Park.

Monterosso al Mare is the ONLY village of Cinque terre, where you will find a large parking.

But it is quite expensive : The first 4 hours will be 1,-€ each, and after these 4 hours the fees get much higher.

Go there by train !

To explore the Cinque Terre you may get a railpass from Genua or La Spezia including the trains and the entryfee to the Cinque Terre National Park.

The trainstation of Monterosso is right in the middle of the village, but the trains do not go through a tunnel, like in the other villages, but will be open and might add a lot of regular noise , while you try to sleep in any of the hotels built along the rails.

Trains run regularily to all villages of Cinque Terre - day-tickets are available, just as well as all-inclusive-tickets for several days.

The trainfare from La Specia and the entry-fee to the National-park ( 3,5 € / day ) will be included, and you may use all trains hopping on and off each station, just as you like.
