Portovenere is a small town west of La Specia, where plenty of cruises will start to the area of Cinque terre
But also the town itself is worth a visit with its old church of San Pietro, that you will pass by, when cruising for Cinque terre
The old church of San Pietro dates back to the 12th century...
...and the arches of the nearby fortress-walls offer a great view over the Cimque terre Coastline

A very nice reminder of my honeymoon. Portovenere is indeed lovely, as is the boat trip to the Cinque Terre.
Love your photos - just beautiful. We will never forget our time in Portovenere. Hard to find a place that matches it to be honest! :) Trina
going the opposite way, from CT to Portovenere, nice pictures, can't wait. (I am partial to Manarola myself) but they are all great!
Looks like another 'must see' village.
Great page about Portovenere, we had a wonderful time there recently. And Vernazza was no doubt my favourite village in Cinque Terre visit.
Fantastic page, Michael! Lovely pictures and great tips. I hope I can visit Portovenere soon.-
Must be one of the loveliest villages anywhere.
I have finally gone there!!! and yesss... it's the base of sailing boats ;-)... and last but not least it's even more beautiful to see your great pics now that I have visited the place also by person!!!
Your description of this place from last week's Forum discussion intrigued me about this place.....now seeing your photos make me want to go there even MORE!! I'm saving my visit to the Cinque Terre.....I hope to be there really soon!!!
All villages in Cinque Terre are amaizing, and worth to see. I was there a year ago. Nice page!!!
