'Carneval in Venice' is really great ! ! !

B U T : If you dont come to see the carneval come here any OTHER TIME of the Year !

It is absolutely crowded, often the 'traffic of walking people' is stuck for half an hour, and nobody could tell you why! You cannot go on and cannot go back in these small streets!

Fondest Memory: I really enjoyed that special kind of Carneval - its not like laughter at every corner, but sophisticated, great costumes, a certain melancholic atmosphere...

    You should try it !!!

  • Favorite Thing: Go out to all of the small islands - you will see a completely different type of Venice there. It is much more quiet, almost no tourists !

Fondest Memory: go to Murano,Burano,Torcello,San Michele...

This pic is a fridge-magnet from Murano, made of glass

  • Favorite Thing: visit San Marco Basilica - this is the view that you have into the Church, when you go up to the famous statue of the 4 horses (entrance fee)

    Bridges: Rialto-Bridge

  • Favorite Thing: On Canale Grande there are only 3 bridges - and RIALTO-bridge is certainly the most famous one.
    .

Fondest Memory: Rialtobridge is a partly covered bridge with plenty of souvenir-shops ON the bridge.
    .
And it is also one of the places, every tourist wants to go...

...but streets to and around Rialto are rather small and narrow, so try to avoid to be in the area at times of "tourist-hours"

  • Favorite Thing: This is the view of the Marks Square you will get, whenever you arrive from the Lido.

The Doges palace and St.Marks Chatedral on the right and the Campanile ( the belltower on the left )

Fondest Memory: Make sure you go on top of the Campanile.
There is a lift going to the platform, where you will have a great view over the islands and the houses of Venice

  • Favorite Thing: The Campanile is open only for a restricted time - so you better check upon arrival on St.Marcus Square.

Sometimes there are big queues of waiting tourists, sometimes its totally empty
    .

Fondest Memory: Take a look around also for the smaller islands and for places you like to see , when walking through Venice

  • Favorite Thing: Take a look on the roofs and plenty of domes on top of St.Marcus Chatedral
    .

Fondest Memory: It will be important to watch first for the opening times of everything you would like to see in the area of St.Marcus Square.
Then make your list of things to do first

  • Favorite Thing: there are plenty of streets going across Venice, but Venice is not built like other cities, with blocks of houses within a pattern of streets....

...where you simply go around a block in order to get into the right street...
    .

Fondest Memory: Here in Venice the small streets go in an absolutely unexpected way through town.

Many different streets will lead to the same place, but will take a completely different way.

and there will be only 3 bridges across the Canale Grande ...

There are direction-signs at some places indicating the major directions, and sometimes a bit confusing as well...

(Click on the pic and you will see!!)
