The Rollercoaster on the run

Through these terraces the small path will take you within 1,5 hours to the next village Castelrosso - like described under " Off the beaten path "

The " Vinyard - rollercoaster "

This is a special way of transportation for the local workers and farmers inside their vinyards.

It is a small train running on a single-rail running up and down the hills like a rollercoaster, taking down the grapes on the small wagons.

This is the terminal of one of them, close to the train-station.

You may also arrive by your own car, but you have to park outside of the village on a small parking - IF they have some empty space there.

Local people may also drive to the main square, but the streets are rather narrow, so THIS is certainly the worst way of exploring the Cinque Terre.

The main train-lines between Genova and La Specia pass by Cinque Terre.

A big part of the distance is done inside of tunnels with short distances outside in the open air.

The train-station of Vernazza is directely in town.

I arrived by boat from Portovenere.
The ride took about 1 hour, and while the boat went on to the next stop, we had a stay of 60 minutes.

Check out for the itineraries - especially out of the high season boats might be chartered by groups and in addition tickets to single travellers will be sold as well.

These cruises might differ slightly from the normal times / itineraries.
And while stops to the other 3 small villages were on the schedule, we just passed by them without landing.

Landing was a problem already in these calm seas - I am sure it is not possible ,when the winds are very strong.
