Ait Ben Haddou Travel Guide: 117 reviews and 370 photos

On a ROTEL-bustour through Morocco we made a lunch-break just opposite of the old clay-village of Ait Benhaddou.

This village was often used as a background for movies like for "Sodom and Gomorrah" and "Laurence of Arabia"

Hi Michael, this place looks truly fascinating! I remember seeing it in the film "Gladiator", and couldn't get the music out of my head while reading your page :-)
I had never heard about Rotel tours, it sounds like an interesting idea!

I finally watched Sodom and Gommorrah a few weeks ago...and there was so much of Ait Benhaddou in the movie that it was rather exciting to watch! Ait Benhaddou has become a handy low priced stopover so have ended up staying here 6-7 times or so in the last 2 years....quite nice to see it so often! and theres a new bridge across the river now!

This place indeed looks wonderful! I will certainly add it to my visit of Morocco, hopefully sometime soon in the future. I've never heard about ROTEL but the whole thing sounds like a lot of fun :)

The area has a lot of movie history and the ruins are wonderful. Again another great job of presenting the region. I saw Indian ruins on trip to Utah and Arizona parks of US. You may want to see these on your wish list. It is an adventure and scenery.

i enjoyed reading your tips. sounds a strange place and very interesting. Crosssing the river with the help of donkies or horses sounds great, but, i think i will do the same you did :)

Michael, great tips on your experiences in Ait Ben Haddou all those years ago. I had to laugh at your river crossing tip & wanted to see a photo of 'how NOT to walk across a river'! Thanks for all the excellent information regardig local customs too.
