Potsdam - Sanssouci

Potsdam - just a few miles west of Germany's capital BERLIN - is mostly known for it's Sanssouci - palace.

This palace was built by Friedrich II. - also called Friedrich the great.

Friedrich was a very special King of Prussia/Preussen:

He quite often went by his carriage into small villages of his kingdom, in order to personally instruct the farmers how to plant and harvest potatoes, as the farmers tried to harvest the potatoes-fruits instead of the roots.

Just imagine, "kings" of today...
(e.g. Billy C. and George W.B.)
...taking their limousines and going through the USA in order to teach the people how to "share a cigar with Monica" or how to "eat a Pretzel without fainting"...

... but that's another story

The Spreewald is a unique landscape south of Berlin, where you my go in Spreewald-gondolas through thousands of small canals...

Well, this is mostly about Potsdam - and I was looking for the Spreewald. I have been to Spreewald last weekend and I was faszinated.

Michael, I did not know that you had an older page on the amazing Sanssouci palace! Yes, I remember thinking that the peasant who refused to sell the windmill to the king was either very brave or stupid!!
