Off The Beaten Path: 3 islands in Chiemsee

On my pic you see 3 famous islands in Chiemsee :
Frauenchiemsee on the left, with the monastery and a small museum, open may-oct. 11.00 a.m.-06.00 p.m.
Krautinsel in the middle - only accessible for the ladies of Fraueninsel, when they need some cabbage
Herrenchiemsee - on the right is the largest of them, with the old and the new castle, a monastery and a great park.
And in the back : The alpine panorama of Salzburg

Off The Beaten Path: the old church

Before king Ludwig bought the whole island there was just a monastery 2 churches and an old castle on the island.
The male monastery was founded in the year 765 A.D. - like the one on Fraueninsel / Frauenchiemsee .
On my pic you see one of the 2 churches, this one is close to the landing-point, the other one may be seen from the ship ( but I missed it)

The old monastery of Herrenchiemsee is a museum today with changing exhibitions.
It is just opposite of the ships-landing station, behind the Schlosshotel .

Off The Beaten Path: Herren-Insel

For visitors, not able to understand enough German :
Herren-insel or Herrenchiemsee - is the island of Men with the male monastery
Frauen-Insel or Frauenchiemsee - is the island of womwn with the female monastery.
Herrenchiemsee is in posession of the state, nobody is living there, except about 60 employees, mainly of the Schlosshotel Herrenchiemsee
Any by the dimensions of the landing-stage you may see that lots of people will go there every summer.

Off The Beaten Path: the king and his castle

When you leave the ship-landingstation and walk towards the castle you will pass by these posters.
Photography inside the castle is forbidden, but if you click on my pic you may see the most famous hall inside the castle :
The hall of mirrors with a length of 96 meters ( that is even a bit longer than in Versailles )

Off The Beaten Path: sunbathing beauties

Sunbathing beauties are to be found all over the park, mainly around the various fountains.
Take a walk and watch out for them, maybe you are luck to cath them in the evening-sun with a totally empty park.

Off The Beaten Path: Poseidon watching you...

Poseidon is watching you - or is it Zeus ???
Who cares, all sculptures are in excellent condition and all of them seem to be " alive " and looking at the visitors...
Don't miss the smaller fountains - you see a part of them in the back of my pic, they are great as well !

It is a pity I had to rush through the park and had just 20 minutes there, before I had to run back to catch the last ship.
Next time I will get there with the very first ship and stay much longer, as there is certainly much more to see.
