  • The GUM - situated directely on the Red Square - was already a sort of " Communiste shopping-paradise " during the old CCCP-times.

And besides its architectonic charmes and beautiful fassades and great glass ceiling - it is still one of the best shopping-centres in Moscow.

What To Buy: You will find shops of all major western companies there, as it seems to be simply a Must, to have a shop inside the GUM.

Have a look for the great glass-roof that makes a great climate inside the building even if it is much too hot outside...
    .

What To Pay: Its a rather expensive place, but you have the best choice - and its open daily even at the weekend.

  • Germany ( and partly also Austria ) is the cheapest place to buy some additional equipment, films, cameras, fuel (Austria), beer, liquor, spirits....

What To Buy: There are many shops in Germany and the competition makes really low, and sometimes really ridiculous prices.

What To Pay: I bought my films for Russia in Hamburg :
AGFA 100 ASA 36 exp. INCLUDING procession for 2,- €
This was an offer, right in July/August 2002 - great films, NO old ones - have a look on my Moscow-pages
These prices do not really make a lot of sense, but will get customers into a shop...

...NO sense for the shop - great value for YOU !!

I am not very familiar with these kinds of shops, but I often saw questions about them in the VT-forum and therefore I post this tip here.
Freeport is the biggest such "Designer Outlet " in Austria

On my pic : another lamp in Excalibur city...
...there is a proverb in latin saying "Ad gustibus non est dispudandum" - you cannot discuss about good taste ;-))

....BUT maybe the lamp fits well to the outlet, as many of the ladies might feel like in "shopping-heaven"

Käthe Wohlfahrts Weihnachtsdorf in Rothenburg ob der Tauber / Germany is one of the very few places in Europe, where you may buy Christmas-decorations ALL year long !!

What To Buy: Its a place for all those, you need some X-mas-feeling not only a few days during the year, and mostly you will see just japanese and American tourists there, who cannot get such typical german handcraf-articles in their own homecountries.

What To Pay: Prices are a bit higher maybe that in other places - but There they are available only for a few weeks before X-mas.
